To celebrate Renault being the best-selling EV manufacturer in Ireland, Renault’s ‘Unplugged’ Sales Events will take place at its network of dealerships around Ireland from tomorrow Thursday 10 to Saturday 12 December with expert advice and 211 offers available across the Renault electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid ranges, writes Trish Whelan . The brand’s 100pc electric and hybrid range is now fully-charged, unplugged and ready to test drive. Customers can expect robust hygiene and safety measures in place, and can book an appointment at their local dealership. Renault has committed €60 million in finance and €2 million in green grants to help customers switch to electric and hybrid vehicles. The 211 offers are available through Renault Bank until 31 January 2021 at all Renault dealerships. Renault has introduced new hybrid electric and PHEV variants to their most successful models ever: Clio, Captur and Megane and claim electrification makes these vehicles an accessible and affordable choice in their line-up, writes Trish Whelan . Renault has revealed details of two new cars and a concept over the last two days, which among other things emphasise the electrification of the Renault and Dacia brands, writes Brian Byrne . A compact coupe-SUV car coming to Ireland in September of next year is the Arkana (below), which will be powered by the Renault e-tech hybrid system that the company says will operate in city traffic in electric mode more than 70pc of the time. A concept Megane eVision concept (top picture) previewed a new generation of Renault cars on a new modular EV platform. Due in right-hand-drive in 2022, it will build on the Renault experience over 10 years of design and manufacture of electric vehicles. A new coupe from Renault, the Arkana, will go on sale in Ireland next year, writes Trish Whelan . The SUV-style car will join the Captur and Kadjar in the Renault line-up, and is expected here in September 2021. Engine options will include a full hybrid powertrain as well as a 1.3 turbo petrol with 140hp. A full suite of connectivity and safety technologies will feature on the car.

Renault has announced special offers to the end of October on Renault and Dacia cars, writes Brian Byrne . These include a €1,000 Cashback, a 3.9pc APR on PCP or HP financing, and a three month Payment Deferral on Renault Captur, Clio, Kadjar, Koleos, the Mégane range and Grand Scénic. Dacia Duster buyers can get a €750 Cashback, a 4.9pc APR and the three months Payment Deferral, and there are specific offers on other Dacia models. For buyers of the all-electric Zoe, there's a special 'Green Grant' of €1,000 available, a 2pc APR offer, and the three months Payment Deferral.

Once upon a time, say 50 or more years ago, the automobile industry was much less international than now.  Car manufacturing countries often had tariffs to protect domestic firms and each country had its own currency and exchange rates relative to others.  And there might have been cultural factors that led to cars having distinctive national visual tendencies.  American cars looked American, English cars English, and so on. One distinctive design quirk for many French cars from 1934 to the early 1950s was beltines (that run along the lower edges of side windows) that drooped or fell off downwards towards cars' aft ends. Most French brands did not have this characteristic.  But the country's "big three" car makers -- Citroën, Renault and Peugeot -- had models with just that touch.  So many French cars' beltlines drooped.
